FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

Are you interested in learning more about our practice? Find out the answers to some of our most frequently asked questions.

How safe are dental x-rays?

Dental radiographic digital images are one of our newest technologies. These x-ray images utilize a sensor rather than film, and the amount of radiation a patient is exposed to is typically small at one-tenth of that of a traditional x-ray.

Radiographic dental digital images carry very little risk. Our staff is especially careful to limit radiation exposure to children. We utilize high-speed film and lead aprons to ensure that our patients are safe while minimizing radiation amounts.

What can parents do to prevent decay?

Parents should be sure to regularly take their kids to the dentist. The initial appointment should be scheduled when the first tooth emerges, as we can recommend a program of brushing, flossing, and other dental treatments that parents can use to supervise the dental hygiene of their children. When adding these home treatments to a balanced diet and regular dental checkups, you’ll be setting your child up for a life of healthy dental hygiene habits.

Are you accepting new patients?

Always! We have a great relationship with our patients, and they often refer their family and friends to our practice because they want them to receive the same high level of care.

What happens at the first appointment?

Each patient in our practice is treated as an individual, and we understand that everyone has unique dental care needs. To meet these needs, we will completely assess your oral health and will perform screenings to create a good treatment plan. We will use dental radiographic digital images and photos when necessary in order to find a treatment option that is right for you.

How can I whiten my teeth?

There are several ways that you can whiten your teeth, including our Opalescence tooth whitening system or porcelain veneers. Dentist-prescribed whitening systems are generally the best option, as they can improve the appearance of the teeth with minimal side effects. Veneers may be recommended when there is considerable damage to the teeth.

What type of toothpaste should I use?

Toothpaste is important for its fluoride and tartar control properties, but it is less important than the technique that you use when brushing. Be cautious of toothpaste brands for whitening, as they are often abrasive and can remove tooth enamel.

What type of toothbrush should I use?

We highly recommend electric toothbrushes as being the most effective option. We recommend these brushes because of their ease of use and design. There are many models available that work well, but if you have a question about specific brands, please contact our office.

What do you recommend for patients with dentist anxiety?

Dental care has made major strides in recent years in terms of patient comfort, but there are many people who have anxiety and fear about going to the dentist. At our practice, we believe that dental care shouldn’t be a painful or unpleasant experience, so we provide options for patients with anxiety, including oral conscious sedation. Please ask us about our techniques and services that can help to make you more comfortable.
